The Weekender

Track 13 on CD "Humanity"

Word & Music by Dark Current

This track  has lyrics written by Bobby Wilson and Mark with music by Dale and Mark.  It has it's roots in the groups tradition of going to Tim Horton's donut shop for coffee and a snack after the Friday night jam sessions.  We would faithfully saunter into the donut shop, at 1:30 or so in the A.M. and for several weeks we would encounter this guy working there who inspired the song.  He always looked a mess, was nervous when customers came in and always, always got the orders wrong!!  His excuse was always the same, "I only work weekends".  So when Bobby was visiting from Ontario, we naturally went for coffee after the session.  Bobby discovered first hand what we had been joking about, and "The Weekender" was written by Bobby and Mark in his honor the very next day.  The following week we pretty much got the song down with Dale adding the "Pie ie ie ie" piece.  We play it as a fun warm-up song and felt it should go on the CD.  We aced it in 2 takes  once the recording sessions began and the first being kept for use as bed tracks.  Overdubs were fairly simple and came together rather easy. We think it's a fun little "dittie".
